Last month, I finally decided to do something I’d been contemplating for a while. I decided to sign up with Advocare and do the 24 Day Challenge.
I’ve seen Advocare products around and thought about it for a long while before deciding the time was right. I needed a kick in the butt to get my food on track, staying active, and getting a jump start on weight loss, since my weight hadn’t changed much since I had Henry.
The Challenge was pretty easy to figure out – the first 10 days are a cleanse, and the second 14 days are a ‘max’ phase. I probably chose the absolutely WORST time to do this cleanse. I started on May 11, Robert was gone on a work trip from May 13th through the 16th, then we left on the 22nd to go down to Charleston to see family and celebrate Memorial Day, we went to a friends wedding on the 23rd in St. Simon, Georgia, then t0 a surprise party for my dad in Roanoke on the 30th.
So throughout this challenge that suggests no coffee or alcohol, I definitely didn’t comply to those standards. I was still very conscious of how much I drank and how well I ate, and I stayed as active as possible, but I wasn’t perfect by ANY means and know that I totally could do better.
SO all that said, I have to admit that I am still totally impressed with the results that I had. I hate putting up pictures like this because I don’t like where I am right now, but I think the comparison shows great results.
I lost 6 pounds, 4 inches, and 1% of body fat in 24 days. I am fully convinced that when I do the challenge again, I’ll be way more strict with myself and stick to the challenge, but for doing the best I could with the 24 days I chose to do with Challenge, I’m totally sold. Not once was I hungry OR tired.
I have had more energy over the past 24 days than I have since I had Brooke. As in, I haven’t felt like I need to take a nap or go to bed at 8pm. I get SO much more done during the day (even with the two kids, today I cleaned our whole upstairs – minus the bathrooms, picked up downstairs, did a couple loads of laundry, packed a few boxes, made dinner, and now it’s 9pm and I’m typing up this post). AND I stopped drinking coffee. I NEVER would have thought this was possible. I LOVE coffee. I NEEDED coffee. Now, I have a Spark in the morning and I’m good to go. Some days I’ll have a second Spark around 2 or 3pm, but no coffee! That’s not to say I’ll never drink coffee again, because I do love it, but now I don’t need it, and that’s so awesome. (my favorite Spark flavors are Mandarin Orange [tastes like Tang!], Fruit Punch, and Mango Strawberry – all so yummy!)
I stayed active and got in as many workouts as I could (but those 10 days we were out of town, I went on 1 run/walk and a couple walks…no weights or Crossfit…just couldn’t find the time)
and I was mindful of what I ate – a lettuce wrapped sandwich with blueberries and cakes, and a yummy salad with walnuts, avocado, blueberries, turkey, and poppyseed dressing.
I’ve got a long way to go to get to where I want to be, but I am convinced that Advocare will help me get there.
