***Thank you all so much for your kind words from our announcement on Monday! We couldn’t be happier or more excited! Xoxo***
I got a call from my OB’s office this morning asking if the ultrasound tech mentioned anything about my (baby’s?) placenta last week, which they didn’t, but basically, as it turns out, I have Complete Placenta Previa – meaning the placenta is lying very low in my uterus, covering my cervix.

Potentially, placenta previa can cause heavy bleeding and premature contractions. So basically I’m on ‘pelvic rest’ – you can google that if you really want. I’m sure you can figure out what it means though.
They told me this isn’t anything to panic over, that it happens in 1 of 200 pregnancies and almost always corrects itself as baby grows and pregnancy progresses. We will have a follow up ultrasound at 28 weeks to see if it has moved. Worst case scenario is the placenta does not move and stays put until the very end, which would result in a c-section. But we have plenty of time before we need to worry about that!
I also asked them about working out and the doctor (who also does CrossFit) says I’m good to keep working out, just lower weights on lifts and take it a bit easier. But he said to absolutely keep working out, so that’s good!
How far along: 20 weeks 2 days
Baby Size: A banana (6.5 inches, 10.6 ounces) – although at our appointment last week (at 19 weeks 4 days) baby BOY was 11 ounces already.
Weight gain: Just holding steady at 0. I’m not worried if the Dr. isn’t worried.
Workouts: CrossFit Monday and todayy and planning to go the rest of the week. I got in a good run/walk on Sunday and that thing I said about a couple races? Yeah. That’s wishful thinking. In the 3 miles I did on Sunday, I had to stop to pee 2 times in the woods.
A good pal at CrossFit asked me Monday if I was taking care of myself. She said something to the effect of “you know, I know how it is, when you don’t want to scale anything, but you need to make sure you’re taking care of yourself…” and something like “I’ve got my eye on you, kid.” And it just made me smile (and I told her I promised I was taking care of myself and if Dr. says I’m good, then I’m going with what he says) because what other gym do you develop relationships like that, where people really do watch out for you! I know one of these days someone will fuss at me for doing something (like box jumps – which are still totally cool, promise!) and it’s something I’m looking forward to 🙂 No one at my box will let me do anything stupid. Like handstands. or burpees. 😉 (kidding…sort of….but would someone tell me to stop doing burpees?!?) (***edited to add that I wrote this paragraph before the call from the doctors office…I’m following what the Dr says, promise!)
Maternity clothes: I ordered some Old Navy maternity stuff online and got it on Friday but still don’t have much of a need to wear it yet, as all my normal pants are still fitting fine. But I have it for when I need it.
Stretch marks: Nothing.
Sleep: Better, other than waking up to pee. But when I’m asleep, I’m sound asleep.
Gender: It’s a BOY! I truly had no idea, and before the ultrasound tech told us, I asked Robert what he thought, and he said “boy, you?” and I said “boy” and yep – we were right!! Baby Boy Brackmann!
Movement: Oh yes. The ultrasound showed that he is already head down and super low. She said “he really likes your cervix”….so….that’s cool and all. Unfortunately, that means that someone is bouncing all over my bladder (hence the stopping twice to pee on a run/walk thing) all the time. I’d love for him to just come up a little tiny bit…
Food cravings: Apparently I’m having ‘cravings’ that aren’t super normal, according to some pals, like cottage cheese with apple sauce – I eat this almost every day. I thought cottage cheese and fruit was a typical snack but anyway..
I still love some sweets, especially mint chocolate chip ice cream. I’m trying to be better about my after dinner snack, so I made some no bake energy bites (because everyone needs more energy at 9pm…??) but they are SO good and I keep them in the freezer…like Brooke says “nom nom nom” (really, she does…it’s super cute)
Aversions: Thick cuts of meat are still a no go. Everything else seems to be fine.
Labor Signs: Nope.
What I miss: I’m still good!
Symptoms: Feeling normal! Hooray!
Nursery: No progress made. We’ll get there J
Belly Button in or out? In.
Wedding rings on or off? On.
Mood: Good overall.
Best moment this week: Finding out baby b is a boy and sharing that with everyone!
Looking forward to: Some nice (potentially productive) weekends at home, it’s been a busy summer!
