You guys. I got the most amazing gift the other day and I just have to tell you about it. My friend Courtney, who is quite possibly the most selfless, amazing person on the planet (and no one who knows her would argue that), sent me a card wishing me a very happy birthday and telling me that in lieu of a gift for me, she made a donation to CelebrateRVA.
What’s CelebrateRVA you ask?
“ celebrate! RVA is a non-profit dedicated to celebrating the birthdays of underprivileged children.”
Plain and simple.
Kids whose families cannot afford parties or gifts or cake. Or who might not have ‘families’ at all. This organization throws them birthday parties.
$15 provides cake, a present and a party for a kid who otherwise wouldn’t get any of that.
I don’t know if it is because I have a daughter of my own, the whole being pregnant thing, or what, but every time I have told someone about this awesome organization (and the wonderful donation Courtney made) I get seriously choked up and actually just typing this out I have tears brimming.
It’s awesome. What kid doesn’t deserve to have a birthday party? Such a simple thing that I know I have taken for granted.
I just love this idea so much and I wanted to take a minute to share this with you in hopes that you can keep it in your back pocket for an idea for another friend’s birthday, or just a random, rainy-day donation. I did a Google search and there are organizations like this across the United States, so feel free to donate to one near your neighborhood.
