Happy Monday everyone (but is that a thing?) – anyway – this past weekend was a good one. Robert spent most of the day Friday staining the railings and spindles on our back deck (which took him several hours) and I worked all day. Afterwards, we were in need of a simple and quick dinner, which led to:
Grilled corn on the cobb
Grilled smoked sausage
and a cucumber, tomato, peanut, kale salad with a homemade honey mustard viniagrette. Yummy! Hit the spot and was delicious!
We woke up fairly early on Saturday morning but were all smiles 🙂 Grandaddy was coming for a visit!
Grandaddy and Kristi got here around 12:30 and we spent a lot of time playing outside after a lunch at Buzz ‘n Neds BBQ (so good – best hush puppies around!) She LOVES her car. But she loves walking up and down the driveway even more.
Oh and dirt. This kid LOVES the dirt.
See what I mean?
Saturday evening was spent playing cornhole (Robert and I lost 3 games, which is seriously unheard of…we have GOT to brush up on our skills. I blame exhaustion from having a one year old. I think that is a valid excuse.)
We gave Brooke some lessons and she is very good at putting the bags in the hole, laying on the board, and pulling them out again. A pro in the making, I tell ya.
If no one else did, at least someone had a productive morning on Sunday. I was on the floor playing with Brooke and kept hearing this muffled meow. I begrudgingly got off the floor to let the cat in and was SHOCKED to see that she had a bird in her mouth! As far as we know, she hasn’t ever killed anything before (except maybe a lizard this one time) so she seemed incredibly proud of herself. I went out the front and met her out back with a shovel and luckily she released the bird with no fight. Unfortunately the birdie did not make it. We gave him a burial in the woods.
Once everyone was up, we had a delicious breakfast of biscuits and gravy (my specialty) and then took our stuffed selves out on a 3 mile walk. One of us fell asleep.
We ran into our friend the turtle. (you can see him sitting in the water dead-center on this picture…right above the sun glare) At least I’m pretty sure it is the same guy. I’m glad he crossed the street safely.
Someone got a bath – and always, a shampoo mohawk.
Then we had some of our wonderful friends over to watch the final World Cup game, make homemade pizzas, and play outside for a while!
In true Katie-form, I forgot to take many pictures, but I did get these two gems. Some of the best friends a girl could ask for – Michelle and Melissa!
And seriously, how cute is this. She kept trying to hug and kiss Tyler. He wanted nothing to do with it (which probably made it cuter) but it was just adorable.
Such a fun weekend all around! We need more of these kinds of weekends! I hope everyone has a great week!
