Holy moly – there has been a lot going on lately! Most recently, we took a little road trip down to Charleston, South Carolina to visit a bunch of family! It is about a 7 hour drive from Richmond to Charleston so I was a bit nervous having Brooke in the car that long, but we decided to leave around 5pm and one of us would sit in the back with her to entertain her until bed time.
Our long weekend incorporated all the F’s – Family, Friends, Fun, Fitness, Food and Fireworks!
And thank goodness for Elmo! She loved it 🙂
One of us sitting in the back also meant that a certain someone else got to sit up front – which he LOVES.
I did not take nearly as many pictures as I wanted to over this vacation. We did so much and had such a fun time, and most of the time I was too preoccupied with the little one to remember to get the camera out. I’ve got to work on that!
We had a yummy lunch at Fuel Charleston with Aunt Heidi and Uncle James (and Uncle Sam came eventually too)
One thing I did remember to take pictures of was Brooke’s (and our) first trip to the Charleston Aquarium. I thought she would be too little to enjoy it, but I was SO wrong. She loved it!
A big bald eagle is one of the first things you see when you go into the exhibits
She got a kick out of the otters!
And looking at the huge tanks with the big fishies in them with her Uncle James.
She pretended to be an egg in a big nest
And looked at even more fishies
Love the fishies!
Family picture in front of the big tank!
They had a touch tank with little sting rays. She loved putting her hands in the water, and the lady talking about the rays said that they would probably steer clear of Brooke, since they usually don’t like the splashing that all the little ones do. Then she was as surprised as the rest of us when one of the sting rays had a thing for Brooke. He kept swimming to where she was and flapping his wings (?) at her and she’d reach down and touch him – it was so cool! The volunteer was so amazed 🙂 Our little animal whisperer!
Pretty view of the Ravenel Bridge from the Aquarium and a family picture 🙂
Just sitting and talking with the frog!
Brooke is on the move these days – she LOVES her shoes (when I ask her to get her shoes, she knows exactly where they are and will bring them to me to put on her).
On the exercise front, I did manage to make it to TWO CrossFit WODs while we were down there. Heidi goes to Crossfit Charleston and the coaches there (Brittany and Will) were so awesome and motivational. I really enjoyed the workouts we did there (and by enjoyed, I mean didn’t finish, but you know…)
Here was the WOD we did on the 4th:
We went again on the 5th and took a bunch of people with us! Our group was me, Heidi, James, Robert, my sister Paige, my niece Anna, and her boyfriend Taylor! It was like a family WOD 🙂 Everyone really liked it except for Anna, hah! I wish I would have taken a picture after this but I was trying to not pass out, so…
I think the workout was:
13 minute AMRAP:
10 Box Jumps
11 Hand Release Push Ups
12 Back Squats (with 25lb weight – men used 45lbs)
I got 4 rounds + 4 Box Jumps. Heidi got 10 rounds (she’ll tell you she didn’t but she did). I’ve got some work to do 😉
Here she is strict pressing 80lbs.
My mom’s birthday was on the 5th and we went to Coast to eat dinner. Brooke did so good and made friends with the table behind us.
We went to the pool several times and B was a little fish. She seriously loved it. She would fall in the water face first (in the shallow end of course), get up and get right back to it. There were NO tears. She was so awesome.
She really wanted to drink out of the bucket 🙂
It was such a fun weekend to spend with everyone – we did fireworks and food, lots of fun and family time, and fitness, duh! all the F’s! I can’t wait to do it again!
And I swear next time I will be better about taking pictures!
