It’s been quite a while since I’ve done an update on Brooke, so here are some fun facts about sweet Miss B.
She is 11 months old tomorrow (good Lord where has the time gone) and we are getting started with planning her first birthday party! She’s getting her first two teeth in (the bottom two) and it hasn’t been very fun. I felt like a terrible mom because she was pulling on her ears, but I saw her gums were swollen so I chalked the ear thing up to teething. Well the day before Robert and I headed out on a little vacation, I decided to take her to the doctor and of course it was an ear infection. Luckily, girl loves the amoxicillin, so it wasn’t too bad for Granddaddy to give to her while we were gone. Ears should be all good to go now and we have two little white specks peeking through her gums.
This one loves to eat. She’ll eat pretty much anything we give to her. As I think about it, I don’t think she’s not liked something we’ve given her. Her favorites are strawberries, blueberries, banana, avocado, black beans, corn, peas (she LOVES peas…she did not get this from me or Robert), green beans, cheerios, yogurt melts…basically everything. I will be glad when she has more teeth so we won’t have to cut everything up so tiny and she can chew more, but for now it’s fine.
Brooke booty dances. She’ll hold on to something on the floor, lift her butt in the air, and shake it. She didn’t get this from me, I swear. If you’ve ever seen Robert dance, well, that should explain it J But she LOVES to dance. Clapping is also super fun, as is peek-a-boo. Her new-ish thing is to crawl where we can’t see her (behind the ottoman or recliner) and we’ll say “Where’s Brooke??” and she’ll pop her head out with a huge smile on her face – over and over again. She also loves to make Indian noises (where she says “ahhh” and pats her mouth with her hand). Oh, and standing on her own. She does this a lot too. She’ll be walking soon, I know…but I’m not ready!
She drinks her morning milk laying on the floor now, like a true lady J
She loves to throw laundry out of the basket (clean or dirty). It’s the ‘take it out – put it back in’ game. She loves to stack things and throw things (she’s got an arm on her!). She loves books and her swing. She also really loves her mama, which I’m totally cool with. Except when I want to put her down and she doesn’t agree that she should be put down. She also LOVES bath time. Anytime we’re upstairs and she is crawling around, she’ll bee-line for the bathroom where she takes baths. She loves it! She is a climber already and loves to get on top of things and then figure out how to get back down, she’s actually very good at being careful.
She’s not a huge fan of diaper changes. I don’t think she hates it yet, and I can usually distract her with a toy or something, but usually she flips over and tries to crawl away before I can get the clean diaper on her. Sometimes she’s laughing, sometimes not so much, but we’re handling it.
As far as words, she says ‘dada’ all the time. ‘dadadadada’. It never ends. Sometimes she’s say ‘mama’, but usually only when she is mad, sad, or tired. She’ll say “dah” when we point at Stout and “at” when we point at the cat (we have to say it too). We’re trying to teach her a few signs – all done, milk (which I think she knows), and eat.
A few weekends ago, we went to Roanoke for Robert to run the Blue Ridge Half Marathon. He did awesome – an hour 56 and some change. For 3,500ft of elevation change – that is pretty awesome! Brooke and I (and her granddaddy, aunt Rah, and Kristi) cheered him on during the race. The cowbell was a highlight for sure 🙂
We also spent some time helping Granddaddy clean off his desk at work.
I just can’t believe she’ll be a year old next month. So, so crazy.
I’ll be back soon with a little vacation recap from our trip!
