Things aren’t super crazy around these parts, but enough that it makes it hard to sit down at the computer and make an interesting-enough-to-publish blog post, so I’m going to try to write weekly, much like I did during pregnancy. It never fails, though, that as soon as I sit down to type up a post, someone wakes up/starts fussing/needs attention, therefore making me lose my train of thought and forgetting I was posting to begin with. Anyway, that’s my excuse 🙂
I do want to say a BIG thank you to everyone that responded to my post regarding breastfeeding/pumping/nursing and the difficulties. It certainly helps take the pressure off to hear that others have the exact same issues or feel the same way. So thank you for the support!
So Miss Brooke will be 8 weeks tomorrow (holy crap, where has the time gone!?)
Stats – Robert weighed her last week and estimated she’s somewhere around 10lbs 10oz! Which means she is even bigger now. I can’t believe it! She has definitely gotten longer, most of her newborn clothes don’t fit anymore, at least in length.
Health – Little one seems healthy as can be!
Sleep – She is still sleeping wonderfully! She has her days and nights straight, so during the day, she’ll eat, play for a bit, and then nap, and so on and so forth. At night, she’ll sleep, wake up to eat, and fall right back to sleep. It’s pretty nice! She is still waking up at least once per night (usually that’s all…sometimes it’s twice) to eat, but she typically goes 4-6 hour stretches, so I’m hoping to drop that midnight feeding soon!
Eating – She is usually a very good eater, eating anywhere from 3 to 4 ounces every 3-4 hours. Sometimes she’ll only eat 2, and sometimes she’ll want 4 or more, so I just watch for her cues and give her what she needs. A few days ago she ate 25 ounces. Yesterday she had 18.5. She seems happy, has plenty of wet and poopy diapers, so I assume she’s getting what she needs.
I am exclusively pumping and it’s going well for now. My goal is to keep pumping as long as possible. It doesn’t hurt adding that extra 500 calories to my day either, and of course the benefits to Brooke with breastmilk is awesome, so as long as I can handle it, that’s as long as I’ll pump. I’m getting anywhere from 18-24 ounces per day so enough to feed her, although I do always add .5 ounces of formula. I don’t know why anymore since my supply seems to be good enough, but we started that a while ago and it’s worked for her, so why switch it up?
What Brooke’s up to – Little one is smiling up a storm these days! She’s most happy in the morning/after naps and when she’s getting her diaper changed. She also LOVES to look at herself and makes silly faces in the mirror. She holds her head up like a champ and has awesome neck muscles for being 8 weeks, we keep a hand behind her head just in case, but she hardly ever lets her head fall back anymore. We do lots of tummy time! We are also working on getting her used to her crib/pack n play. I’ve found that she seems to sleep more soundly and stay asleep if she is on her side, so I put her down like that and just keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn’t roll over on her tummy (so far she hasn’t, just rolls onto her back)
Thoughts – I can’t believe Brooke is already 2 months old – it is so crazy how fast the time goes and how big she’s getting! I love all of her new tricks, faces, noises, and everything! She’s becoming so much more interactive and responsive to us – I can’t wait for what the next month will bring!
How’s mom? – I’m doing really good! I started the Couch to 10K program last week, so I’m on week 2 now (1 day left in week 2) and it’s going really great. Its definitely an awesome way to ease my way back into running without making me feel overwhelmed or crappy. There have been times that I’ve criticized my time or pace, or gotten frustrated if I get tired before a run segment is up, but I just remind myself that I had a baby 2 months ago and it will take time! I am going to sign up for the 8k in Richmond in November (the same weekend as the half marathon that I ran last year) so that will give me a goal so I stick with it. I’m also doing a month long squat/push up/plank challenge with Melissa. We are up to doing 80 squats, 15 push ups, and a minute long plank. They are all hard, but the planks KILL my lower back, so I’ve had to scale back how long I do those until I build my lower abs up enough so it doesn’t hurt so bad. I have lost 7 lbs in about 2 weeks, so I’m excited about that, hoping it keeps coming off!
All in all we are doing wonderful, Brooke is such an awesome baby, and Robert and I are so incredibly blessed to have such an easy going baby, a great puppy who loves his little sister, amazing family and friends who help us and spend time with us, and to have each other 🙂 I love our sweet little family.
