First things first. Today is National Pi Day. Because it’s March 14. 3.14. So anyway, to me, a pregnant lady, National Pi Day means National Pie Day and ALSO means I will eat pie in some way/shape/form today.
I had my 28 week appointment this morning and had to drink the drink (it’s a super-sugary-almost-syrup juice that comes in Orange or Fruit Punch – I got FP) and wait an hour so they can take blood and test it to see how my body breaks down the sugars and what not. Its the Gestational Diabetes/Glucose Screening test and you can read more about it here if you really want to. I get my results back either tomorrow or Monday, and the lab tech said no news is good news, so pray for no news!!
This week, we’re an eggplant, or a head of lettuce…whichever you prefer.
From BabyCenter: By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She’s also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.
At the appointment this morning, the nurse checked Lady B’s heart rate and determined that she is still hanging out really low down there. Her heart rate was a steady 144, and she kicked the wand a few times for good measure. It made me laugh because I could feel it and see the wand move, and the first few times the nurse giggled, then I think she might have gotten a little annoyed trying to get the heart rate reading. That’s our girl – pushing her limits already 😉
My Symptoms: Not too much going on these days. I’m getting pretty tired again throughout the day, and my feet hurt, especially if I’m on them for a while. Last night, I had my first sleepless episode. I woke up around 3 to go to the bathroom, and laid back down, shut my eyes, and my mind started racing. I was ‘awake’ – meaning ‘conscious’ – until 4:30 or so, when I finally fell back asleep. Not to mention Lady B woke up with me at 3 and stayed awake until 4:30 too. She made sure I knew she was awake. She made no attempt at light kicks or punches. It’s like she knew I was having trouble sleeping, so might as well stay up and party with mom!
I still haven’t bought more shoes, just shoving my fatty feet into shoes I already have (except for the awesome Brooks ones, of course!).
Weight/Belly: They weighed me at the doctor this morning. And I wanted to give myself a huge high five! Only up 2lbs last month. Freaking right. Doc said I was doing really good, and to keep doing whatever it is I’m doing (which is keeping track of my food using MyFitnessPal, walking a whole lot more, and trying to be good – minus the ice cream after dinner. It’s mint chocolate chip. I’m weak. End of story.)
Last week was 27 weeks:
Sleep: I mentioned this already – hopefully last nights inability to stay asleep was a fluke thing and won’t happen often but I’m not going to hold my breath for that. I figure I’m lucky to have been able to sleep as well as I have been up to this point.
Cravings: Yeah nothing out of the usual here. Sweets and fruit. AND! Christophers Runaway Gourmay carts reopened this month SO I will be eating some of my favorite chicken salad very soon. Although I did find a runner up favorite chicken salad – the Wine Country Chicken Salad from Trader Joe’s. It’s really, really good.
Another new thing for me is The Fitnessista’s Breakfast Cookie. Her blog is awesome and the breakfast cookie is phenomenal, as are the Amazeballs! They really do taste like balls of cookie dough. (Thanks Lauren for the recommendation!)
The breakfast cookie has rolled oats, nut butter, a mashed up banana, protein powder, cinnamon, and stevia, and it all mixes together overnight, and is an awesomely filling, and really yummy, breakfast! (yeah I know it’s not pretty, but trust me, it’s SO good!)
Also, the glider reupholster was exciting to finish, and Robert finished the cradle (post coming soon)! We may not be ready quite yet but our house is certainly looking like it’s ready for a little one 🙂
Goals for next week: Continue to eat ‘healthy’ and exercise! This weekend is St. Patricks Day, which means green beer! Unless your pregnant. So I’ll probably put green food coloring in my water or something. But we are going to celebrate with some of our awesome friends (and celebrating my beautiful friend Lisa’s birthday – which is on Monday – don’t let me forget ;))
