I had a lightbulb go on today. It was pretty cool because that hasn’t happened in a while, so it was nice to have some lights on up there. But really, I was cruising the internet and happened upon a fairly popular website that allows commoners like myself to write articles that people everywhere can read. Now, I don’t know all of the intricacies, and that after looking through the available topics, as much fun as it would be to review Richmond Mexican Restaurants, the chances my hips double in size from margaritas and queso is way too likely, it would be pretty neat to write about something I’m familiar with and have millions of people read it every day. Okay, not millions, but I’m sure there would be a few, which is a good start.
So then I saw the option to “Suggest Your Own Topic” and the lightbulb got a little brighter and I got just a little excited. I thought “What could I write about that would be both entertaining and informative, but that I’m knowledgable about?” Then it hit me.
I’ve been to approximately 12 weddings (give or take a few) in the past two years. We already have several more on the calendar that we plan on attending, and I’m sure there are even more in the works. That is a LOT of newlyweds. And what do newlyweds have a lot of??
Ok, I’m sure that wasn’t the best way to phrase that question, but I kind of like it and it made me laugh…
But seriously – newlyweds have a lot of situations/issues/problems/funnies! I mean, I don’t know about you, but how many newlyweds do you know that have it all figured out??
So then I thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool if I could write an article about newlyweds by a newlywed about newlywed things?” and the answer was: “Yes, Katie, yes it would be.” I came up with a list of topics that I could write about, and when I had about 10 topics in about 3 minutes, like “The Wedding is Over – Now What?” and “Ways to Avoid ‘Post-Wedding Pudge'” and “He Says, She Says – Newlyweds on Decorating” I figured I had a pretty good idea, even if I am the only one that thinks so.
I wrote up a little bio of myself, wrote a short ‘sample article’ to submit and in a few short weeks, someone should email me to tell me if I’m worth it or not 🙂
But the better part is, since I’ve been having a hard time keeping up with the blogging, maybe this would be a cool way to stay committed. I know several readers aren’t newlyweds anymore, but it’s still entertaining marital stuff, and heck, y’all can even give me some advice while we’re at it! Don’t worry, I’ll still throw in the personal stuff, because really, that’s the stuff thats the most fun to read.
I’ll do it on a trial basis for a while, to see what the feedback is and if it’s worth reading, and I’ll go from there. Hopefully I can keep it enjoyable and somewhat informative, but mostly enjoyable. I mean, might as well get some laughs while we’re all learning this marriage thing, right??
