For some unknown reason, the weather on the east coast has been very…snowy. We are stumbling upon our next ‘snow storm’ of the season, making it numero 4, but luckily, this one is not happening on a weekend, like the past three, nor does it threaten to bring over 10 inches of snow.
After the first two snowed-in weekends of laundry, cleaning and other ‘fun’ household chores, Robert and I figured we’d be prepared for this most recent storm, so we hit up Lowes for some snow-day staples – and no, I don’t mean snow shovels and salt. We got PAINT!
That’s right – after much deliberation and testing (6 paint testers to be exact), we finally decided on the perfect color for our very white great room.
The color we chose:
Here is a refresher of what the room looked like before:
So first, we went tried out our testers.
The one on the left was from the first round of testers, the swatch was a brownish-green color, but this came out like the color of a high school locker room…or a prison…same difference 🙂
These were from the second round of testers – more like what we had in mind! The one of the left had some crazy peachy-pink undertones that would feel more 1970’s than we’d prefer, and the middle one was nice, but blended in a bit too much with the carpet and sofas. The one on the right was our cardboard – It has a little bit of green it it, which pulls in the green from the curtains and pillows, but is different enough from the rest of the rooms accents that it fit right in!
But first, while I was picking up our supplies from Lowes, I also grabbed this lovely fan 🙂 I had a feeling that was one of the reasons our great room wasn’t giving off the homey-feel we needed. I was right!
Even without the paint on the walls yet, the fan makes the great room feel like a living room! Side note – Robert is torturing Mellah with leftover wiring from the fan…
So after 2 days of taping, priming, painting, re-painting and touching up – I give you…OUR LIVING ROOM!!
I love it! It’s so cozy and inviting now
We also did a bit of furniture rearranging, nothing too drastic though 🙂
And here it is during the day time in it’s true color (with the $40 mirror we found at Ross…PERFECT!) I absolutely love the whole room!
Since we had such good luck at Ross with the mirror, we figured we’d check out one other thing Robert had his heart set on…a clock for the morning room:
Which I was worried about at the beginning because of it’s black frame with bronze accents, but it pulls in the brown from the living room and ties it all together – good job Robert for picking it out 🙂
We did learn, however, that it’s called ‘PAINting’ for a reason…our bottle of Aleve got as much of a workout as we did this weekend, but we are glad it’s done and love the finished product – and of course, I’m back to figuring out which project comes next 🙂
