I’ve come to the realization that weddings are expensive! (ok, thats sarcastic, I already knew this, but it really hit me) I made out a budget spreadsheet of all the things we need for the wedding, and the total amount budgeted almost made me fall out of my chair. That bad news is, I emailed that budget sheet to my dad….and I haven’t heard from him since I sent it over….
I’m sure he’s fine….just….busy…..
Anyway – to try to save anywhere possible, I’ve mulled over all the things I can do myself. Flowers, invitations, table decorations, jewelry – they all fall under the “things I’m able to do, but will I have time” category.
So, what I’ve done is thrown together an ‘inspiration board’ of flowers that I would like to use for the wedding stuff. In this process, I realized there aren’t many flowers I don’t like (except Spider Thistle…not only a bad name, but it’s kind of a scary flower):
Eek! No. Thank. You.
But here is a little (big) sample of what I do like:
From the top left, we have:
2. Gerbera Daisy
4. Dendrobium Orchid
5. Football Mum
6. Garden Rose
7. Giant Hydrangea
9. Mount Everest Rose
11. Calla Lily
16. Peruvian Lily
And here are some ways I can forsee using the flowers, if I do them myself:
Again with the assorted bottles – but mine would be wine bottles. The tulips, hyancith and lilac would be good for this, with the long stems and full blooms.
I see tuberose, lilac, hydrangeas and mums 🙂
How gorgeous are the orchids on here?! But seriously, this many orchids would cost an arm, leg and first born. I think this could be done with some sticks gathered together, and some fancy handwork with flower tape and tuberose!
I know, this is totally outrageous, but do you not just want to hug those flowers?! These arrangements are absolutely gorgeous, and the candles make it even more elegant. I’m thinking tightly packed carnations or mums. Carnation have a bad reputation, and I can understand if youre just looking at one measly carnation, but imagine 50 bundled together really tight (and 50 carnations is, what, $60??)…I like it!
If I can summon up the energy (and the very sweet, helpful friends that I have…. 🙂 ) I just may decide to go it myself and see what happens…Any helpful hints, tips or tricks out there would be HUGELY appreciated 🙂
That’s all I’ve got for flowers – for now anyway! Check back soon! I have a feeling a blog about food & drink is close! (and maybe one to showcase the bridesmaid dresses!!) – aren’t you excited?!
